On the fourth of July, just before he returned to France, Dakpo Bamchö Tulku came to visit Rinpoché and beseeched him to live a long life. On the next day the Gadong and Nechung oracles were invoked and asked for advice. The following day was the birthday for my thirty-sixth year, and as always, at eleven o’clock Rinpoché presented me with a ceremonial scarf. Afterward, with the great Vajradhara, Kyabjé Trijang Rinpoché, and my mother, we had lunch.

On the sixth of August Rinpoché bestowed vows upon nine novice monks and one layman.

The lineage of the Abhisambodhi Vairocana initiation, the principal deity of the performance tantra class, is very rare. Therefore I fervently requested Rinpoché to undertake the retreat of this deity and to confer on me the initiation. Consequently, with Chamdo geshé Gelek Losang as recitation assistant, Rinpoché entered into a retreat on this deity.

Rinpoché completed the retreat on the thirteenth of September and performed the supplementary fire offering.

Beginning the nineteenth Rinpoché gave teachings on the Vajrabhairava great-approach retreat to four monks of both Dharamsala tantric colleges who were in retreat and to Lati Rinpoché.

On the fifteenth of October, at half past twelve, Rinpoché came to see me on my request in order to remove some doubts I had on a discourse I was about to give. He gave answers that completely dispelled all doubts.

In response to a request from Barshi Phuntsok Wangyal and others, Rinpoché gave the White Tārā long-life initiation in his residence on the fourteenth of October. On the twenty-seventh, at the request of Amdo Jikmé, he gave the permission initiation of the Three Wrathful Forms Combined, thereby fulfilling the spiritual aspirations of the disciples.

Around that time the minister for home affairs visited Rinpoché and requested him to undertake a longevity meditation practice for my long life.

On the ninth of November, in the upper chapel of the Thekchen Chöling temple, Rinpoché bestowed on me the preparatory rituals for initiation of Abhisambodhi Vairocana, and on the following day he conferred the actual initiation. At five o’clock, after the teachings, he very kindly engaged with me in conversation on vast and profound topics of the Dharma. Others at the initiation included Kyabjé Trijang Rinpoché, the abbot and senior monks of Namgyal Monastery, and about fifty other monks. Beginning on the seventeenth, Rinpoché gave me detailed teachings on the generation and completion stages of Vajrabhairava, based on the lineage of these teachings he had received from the Mongolian Palden Sangpo.

On the twenty-seventh Rinpoché left Dharamsala for his winter stay in Bodhgaya.

On the fifth of December, in the assembly hall of the Bodhgaya monastery, Ling Labrang sponsored a long-life ceremony by way of a Guru Puja tsok ritual for Vajradhara Kyabjé Trijang Rinpoché.
